what ever happened to gofer and doc?

well i'm not so sure what happened to the two characters from 'the love boat', but i do know where the boat is, and i am typing this entry from the business center of it! to explain on this a little further, i am working at the 15th asian games in daho, qatar at the moment and the living quarters for the staff is on three cruise ships that are moored at the dock. you could imagine my surprise and delight when i discovered that it is indeed the 'new flamenco', the very ship that they shot 'the love boat' on! i'm also hoping that at the end of every day we get to see the captain marry two people who you thought might never get it together.... with a sunset in the background..... whilst the doc sings to them.... etc. etc. but here's the view from the top deck of doha city:
my initial destination was the dubai airport, which initially struck me as this eastern culture that has been engulfed by the rabid tidal wave of globalisation. there is this unique blend of arabs surrounding themselves in what could be a shopping mall somewhere in america, only with a signifiantly larger amount of more costly items for sale. the most interesting difference that i noted was the lack of background music, which gives this space a feel of vastness and grandure, along with a slightly odd feel. perhaps just different to what i am used to.
on a more personal level, coming off a 16 hour flight, i was busting to go to the toilet. hustling to the nearest men's room, i bust into the cubical and find this....
however i must say after mastering the knack of using this shiny steel platform, it works a whole lot better than those seat shaped 'thrones' we westerners have. i hereby endorse the 'squat steel platform' for all!
doha strikes me as a place that time forgot, however was found recently along with a secret booty containing enough money to cure third world debt. there is an incredible amount of construction happening here, forcing the skyline to creep up into the heavens. flying over it one can see how it appears to be surrounded by peasant farms that don't really have a lot going for them. i heard a mention of gas line and income in the same sentence earlier, so will have to investigate this matter as time goes on (unfortunately the firewall of this beast won't allow me to google). i believe this will explain the current situation and they seem to be moving into a position of global economical importance - possibly following in dubai's footsteps?
however the culture, this place is full of it just like yoghurt! to leave you with an image here is one relevant to what is surrouonding its city:
