things to do in cheonan with no money

March 21st 2007 16:13
it seems on the weekend, all that koreans want to do is climb mountains. it is the weekend thing to do and i wondered what was so fascinating about walking up these big hills after a belly full of pork from a sunday feast. but then after this weekend, i now understand what all the fuss is about.

it is the best way to digest your food, and also when you arrive at the top the views are spectacular. often there is a temple at the top of most routes, which is good for a bit praying, or simply taking photographs. and it's free!

here's some snaps of seongbulsa temple which we went and saw on the weekend.
prayer bell at seongbulsa temple
the way the monks cure hangovers

monk housing
where the monks live when they are not praying

seongbulsa temple entrance
'the sprit of monkey was irrepressive!'

seongbulsa's buddha
'along time ago.....'

inside the seongbulsa temple
finally you reach the top, and this is what you get!

so after the bout of exercise, the lovely views, the history, the smells, and the scenery, i now understand why everyone climbs mountains on the weekend. this is truly a superb way to spend a sunday afternonn.

Can you buy a beer at the temple when you reach the top?

Probably only light huh?

i didn't see a beer tap or esky floating around anywhere. but i did see a flyer advertising a 'porn and prawn' something or other. must be some kind of code for special secret religious stuff.

hey lilla.

welcome! and i am pleased to have taken you for a stroll down memory lane.

it really surprises me this travel thing. adventure and touring companies that offer the world to you, but charge the ass for it at the same time. yet there is this type of wonder and beauty in so many areas all over the globe that just are...

there for a purpose,
there for a no purpose,
a tourist attraction,
something for the locals to do on the week end,
great for photography
and they are all free!

sometimes it really does pay to get off the beaten track, throw your cards in the air and see where you end up! korea is a colourful and dynamic country.
