korean b boy music is all a bit gayo
March 14th 2007 04:56
let me start by explaining that gayo in this sense is not in relation to its sexual reference, but more to the meaning of any music within the korean language. but since we're talking about gay-o, let's focus on a form of korean music that is humungous in south korea, and is part of the korean wave that is taking over the neighbouring asian areas.
korean boy bands are simply the biggest thing in the younger generation, particularly with the ladies! or little girls anyway. andk-pop is one of the largest things in this culture, engulfing both the boys and the girls. not a day goes by where you can't see a poster, or hear a song being broadcast on a bus, shopping center, or through the uni public address system (for real!), or god forbid you watch a music program that is centered on pop music, that is featuring the latest installment of all of the boy bands love misfortunes.
koreans seem to love a good old tragedy, and what better way to tell a tragic story than with four hunky guys. or even five. sometimes seven. probably the best way is to use thirteen of them to really drive that point home! man i thought the wu tang clan was ridiculous with their members but they ain't got nothing on the sheer size and power of a korean b-boy wrecking machine!
but when all is said and done, you really feel how they were really in love, but really didn't want to break up, but really had to because he didn't realise he was really in love with his really, really good looking lovers best friend. but then she turned out to be a really boring shag, so he is really longing to get back with the one he really loved in the first place. but she has really moved on, and now the pain will never really sub-side. or something like that.
business is also good for the boy band. the originators shinhwa are the longest running boy band in the scene, and are said to have also started a monopoly on the scene. after working out the correct recipe for hit after hit, they decided they were getting a bit long in the tooth, so needed some help. they then started introducing new groups as sub shinhwa-ees, and teaching them the ropes. enter quality k-popers super junior, and on the music machine churns.......
i personally can't wait to see the new film clip from H.O.T. so that i can learn the moves, and create a movie like this:
