if you could be a car what would it be?
June 18th 2007 06:14
most people have characteristics that could be likened to many objects - animal, mineral, or vegetable. generally we seem to pick things that reflect our personalities and sometimes don't realise how much they are actually saying about us. what kind of ring i wear, which style of backpack i don, which music t-shirt i am wearing - they all say something about the person and are a kind of a reflection of what is going on inside. for this week on anthroblogogy, i will be posing questions of what particular item you would be in various categories.
for today let's look at cars. if i had to be a car i would have to be 1953 hudson 'wasp'. nice and fat where it counts, packs a punch when it needs to, good curves, and turns heads when it has to. looks good in whatever colour it is wearing, and likes to go fast on the highway. oh, also looks good when it's dropped on it's guts and sometimes goes by the title 'lead sled'. i don't know if any of that reflects me, but that's what i would like to be if i was a car.

I'd be
1. an e-type Jag (toss up between series 1 or series 3)
- not going to bother explaining why.
2. or an XJ40 '87 (Jaguar)
- practical, glamorous, low centre of gravity, sticks to the ground while flying, a bit dramatic but ice 'don't touch me' exterior masks the complex wiring and its cocooning nature, it protects but doesn't overpower. It empowers. A bit intimidating for those who do not know how to handle powerful engines. (this applies more so to e-types)
3. or a De Tomaso Pantera '71
- because I have a thing for cat-like creatures. Just not cats. Besides it goes 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds.
4. or a Karmann Ghia.
- because I just love them. They're so girlie and feminine! A hot pink one with white leather seats thank you. Very hard to find here.
5. and an Aston Martin DB5
- only if Sean drove me....
Yes, you're probably going to go off your nut because the question is singular but.....I like lists!
At least I commented right?

nice. elegant. sophisticated. and a bit of grunt when you need it!
ok, because you listed such classic machines, you can have two. i pick you as a XJ40 '87 from monday to friday - an elegant machine to drift around the city in, and the Karmann Ghia for saturday and sunday, just because they look so good and are the ultimate chick car. am i close?

taxis are the most important car to those of us that don't own any wheels. and rare as on christmas or new year's eve! but sometimes they smell and squeek and fart and stuff. he he.
jeep wrangler eh? adaptable, 4wd, and comfy with all the mod cons on the inside. and also appear to be very popular with male race between the ages of 30 to 35. very sneaky.... very, very sneaky.

(well...I'd like to believe it anyway!!)
...I used to drive an XJ40, (which I helped restore so I know all about complex wiring -not just metaphorically speaking!) and have
lustedlonged for a Karmann Ghia since the dawn of...well..my love of cars.I currently drive a Land Rover and my children crazy.
Oh very very clever...your analysis of Ash's choice!
...and yes...the De Tomaso Pantera 'fits' you David!
Must find a pic of that...
Oh. My God....just remembered, looking at your Hudson.
The car I would most like to be is the Holden eFiJy!!
Holden's concpt car that is a tribute to the FJ.
I saw it at the '05 Sydney Motor Show...have some pics somewhere...it is just incredible!
Distinctly vintage feel but very futuristic.
Do you mind if I post a pic of it?
...sorry for such a loooong comment...I'm a car nut.

(and yes I was ready and waiting Jon!)
It's a concept car and a tribute to the Holden FJ but I believe they are in production. I want one!!!
Totally cool interior....full chrome and leather and touch sense LCD display and the ignition is a button.
5.2m long. And a sleek grunt machine.

The last pic, taken from Wikipedia is the colour I saw at the Motor Show...just beautiful and my favourite colour!!
My pics are not good because I was being jostled by crowds who wanted to see

after all of that talk on cars I had a dream about yours last night Dusk... it was sort of like this one except a maroony colour and it had a black and orange sticker on the back (a map of Australia? something to do with camping or 4wd -ing?) I was getting my car fixed and asked the repair man to let me into your car so that I could I log onto your computer to send you a message on Orble but I could not find the modem in your car (eh?!) so left you a hand written note. The steering wheel of your car was really big. As I was driving on I saw Tracy standing on the side of the road and she was waving.... but she was her Orble blog tag!
Jonathon your blog has done strange things ~laughs~

Probably a VW beetle or a Peugeot 206. Short, petite and high maintenance.

I'm probably more like an Alfa Romeo 147. Cute, zippy sassy, totally unreliable and a completemoney pit. But as Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear once said of the Alfa Romeo 157, the car constantly breaks down, you'll spend a fortune on it, but then one day you'll get in the car and have 10 minutes of perfect driving, and you'll remember why you don't care how much you have to spend on it (or words to that effect).

aimzster,
high maintenance, but a whole lot of fun!
kyliew,
