female bloggers - bloghers
May 12th 2007 04:33
i found this article the other day in the age on tuesday the 8th of may 2007.
it basically goes on about how there are not many women blogging out there and then goes on to say that they do it differently! in my blogging experience, i would have to say that i have come across maybe even more female bloggers than male ones. and of course the style of communication is different - it is written by a woman! isn't any form communication different between a male and a female?
the main heroin of the tale goes on to talk about how hard it was for her to begin blogging, and there was no acceptance for her, and how she still struggles.... i think this is bullocks. blogging is a form of expression that is open to all, regardless of sex, race or religion. it feels like the age were simply reaching for an article. what do other bloggers, especially female bloggers feel about this?

I have always been superior to males, but I really like them, women can be very silly at times, men are more matter of fact, and hopefully, get on with the business.
Vive la difference, is what I say, give me a good bloke any time, are you available? [just kidding].
One can't guarantee people will like you, whatever sex you happen to be.

This is another one of those 'not enough women in tech!' articles which are blatantly wrong because whoever wrote it did not doubel check the facts, just wrote what he/she thought would be convient to write.

is it presumptious of me to think that you are a woman? or do you communicate like our female counterparts?
i could write a lengthy comment here on the debate of women being superior to males, but i think everyone has heard it all before, so i will agree with you that we have very different communication styles. i might also say that i am pleased that we do, otherwise life would be quite boring.
blogging can be hard work (or more time consumptious) and there is no guarantee that people will like you, so yes you are right again. but isn't that the same in any communication situation, in that people will (generally) like you or dislike you regardless of your sex? maybe our female blogger in question should just be better at what she does.
thanks for dropping by.

like i said, it feels like the age were 'fishing' for an easy article. in true australian style, everybody loves the underdog, and that is the real morale to the story here. i have no stats to back this up but i feel strongly that blogging is one of the media streams that is free from sexism, where contribution is welcomed and embraced by all those who do.

I can only talk from Orble experience but it would seem here there are more women bloggers than men? I agree the way that we all blog is completely different as men and women are in reality.

yes sometimes in orble it does feel like the women to men ratio is about 2:1. i think this is a very good indicator that women are in an equal playing field in the blogging realm. thanks for dropping by ash.

Fast forward to today, and the Paris Hilton type deluded celebrity that some people unfortunately want to aspire to, hasn't helped the situation. I'm actually scared for the uneducated minds out there, when I read that Paris or Lindsay think they are helping millions by just being beautiful. Some Mums want their daughters to be quiet and beautiful and star in a reality TV show and a lot of males in power want the same thing, just with less clothes!! Case in point: It annoys me that when a leader like Julia Gillard speaks out, the first thing you see in the Newspapers is how bad her haircut is. WTF, this could be our future leader, it might pay to take notice of her opinion given she will be directly affecting our lives soon.
For me generally, when I read a blog about travel, technology or some other hobby, I'm totally gender neutral. When I read a Social commentray blog, I'm aware of gender but only because I usually see less slang and threats to kill people
Re: what Ahmed said about Women in tech, I have a unique perspective because I am a tech manager in support. Given the choice, I would love to add a female to a tech team. Selfishly, because boys and girls working side by side seem to work harder to either outdo each other or impress each other
That's my two cents.

fantastic comment and you raise some important issues here. i feel the workplace is always better with a balance of women and men - too many blokes and the conversation gets lost in sex, football, meat pies and holden cars. too many women and we get stuck debating emotional things to and fro for far to long. but a nice balance allows the conversation to flow with valid points, touching all sorts of issues with well thought out and constructed discussion - by both sexes!
this is something that i really appreciate about a blog and the discussion that happens after an article. both sexes, so both styles of thinking patterns, engaging in discussions that will hopefully better all those that are involved with it, and not a place where 'blokes' should think:
it is interesting that you approach blogs with gender as a consideration - and a good argument that you use. i wonder how many other readers approach blogs in a similar style?
