emocore is stupid
March 9th 2007 15:50
i think the worst movement around these days, particularly if you have ever walked out of flinders street train station in melbourne, would have to be emo. just everything about it is wrong wrong wrong. and it seems to continually contradict itself time after time. if you are unsure what it is i am speaking of, check this out, and then your eyes will be open, although you probably still couldn't see because your fringe would be in the way.
anyway, if you don't believe me that it is a stupid movement, i have others to back me up in what i say! ian mackaye of the beloved 'minor threat', 'fugazi', and now 'the evens' fame, also says that emo is stupid, and he stated it way back in 1986.
hear what he has to say here.
it is kind of funny how messages get mixed up in that kind of chinese whispers way. minor threat pioneered what would become known as straight edge punk - that being an anarchist that is totally against the state, doesn't eat meat, doesn't smoke, drink, or do drugs. and i guess that is really making a personal statement which i think is probably the most powerful statement that can be made.
however the pioneer is always the one to end up with the arrow in his/her back, as is the case with this movement as it was twisted into what we know today. who cares if you have a secret tattoo that states you are a straight edge? isn't this simply confirming you are really a chickenshit conformist like your parents? i wonder if the majority of the people that sport their tight black jeans, my chemical romance t-shirt, and sleeve tattoos even know who minor threat are? i am certain when ian mackaye started sreaming 'you call it religion, you're full of shit!' knew that his personal beliefs had commercial potential. damn mtv! damn marketing ploys! if malcolm mcclaren hadn't have come up with that great rock'n'roll swindle thing in all of his genius, none of this would have ever happened. and when did safety pins become uniform for a punk?
just had to have a rant, i shall get off my soap box now. thanks to a punk tribute for the picture.

the funniest thing about this link, apart from the music of course, was the comments! within me reading five comments, they are arguing and contradicting themselves already. after a few comments of 'shit dude, this is the sickest shit ever', and something about this is on 5:20 but there was more on the sequel 5:27 (maybe they can't count either), some person was arguing within their own ranks about how it wasn't even screamo. apparently you just can't simply scream emo for it to be screamo!
it's the typical mentality of the metal-head that knows everything and won't expand to discover new things. but apparently they already know all that there is to know about their precious music genre, and they can laugh at all the rest. thanks for that it completely reinforced my point.
and the black jeans can stay as long as you keep the 'choper' moustache!
