"There is no progress in art, any more than there is progress in making love. There are simply different ways of doing it." Man Ray

choice eh wibro!

wibro connection
to further on yesterdays discussion of internet technologies, where the japanese are ignoring the benefits of the old pc and turning towards mobile technologies, here is some more information relating to convergence, mobile technology, and internet stuff.

i don't feel as if i could let go of my mac. i use it for far too much other than just emails, downloading, and internet stuff. what about editing, word processing, web designing blah blah blah. so it is not an option for me to change my mac for a little button mobile phone. i need my big machine, but i also need high speed internet access while mobile. enter the koreans!

iptv
these guys have been busy down in the dungeon (or high rise corporate facilities) producing the world's first high speed mobile broadband internet service, or wibro. and today sees the first university, dankook university, in the world having access to this high speed wireless internet. well perhaps it isn't cutting edge breaking news, but the idea combined with iptv is. imagine having the ability to watch on demand tv wherever you want. now that's pretty cool.

i think back to this post by damo about the state of broadband (or lack of) within australia. if there would be some infrastructure investment within this industry, it would make the need for exchanges obsolete. wibro is so good that it can even be used whilst traveling at high speed!

i feel this is the perfect answer towards mobile technology, interface, convergence, and infrastructure needs. now it's just a matter of getting kevin rudd to take notice.
3g hangul
korea and its mobile technologies - they look cool too!

ahahahahaaa, great minds I tell you, great minds. I thought of the new zealanders too when seeing Wibro.
Macs...I have come to the mac side of the force too now going on a year. I will never look back.
Mobile Tv...great idea, bad in practise. Tv's ok at best when at home, I don't need to watch it when I'm on the go. I see no benefit to this side of technology, only destruction of face to face human interaction. It seems to me that technology is trying to seperate us from the real world and cacoon us in our own, self-stylized world of one touch information and entertainment. Imagine the world without entertainment...chaos. Though, at the same stroke of technological brush, we communicate to a far greater audience than what is just in our own personal space. An interesting road we tread.

hey tersch,

did you just give up on the black man? what did the black man ever do to you? it's racial isn't it?

yeah i feel a little jittery when contemplating a life without media and communication. partly because, well it is my life, and partly because maybe it would bring chaos as you say. we are so accustomed to this communication style i think we demand improvements on a regular basis.

i agree with you when you say tv should be left at home, but the idea of mobile high speed broadband..... it makes my head spin with ideas! what else can i produce to utilise this media protocol? it has to be better than that nova campaign where they would hijack your mobile when you stood near a tram stop, and inject this happy running nova character. damn commercialism!

I'm not racist, I hate everyone equally. (for people out there, if you don't realise, this is a joke)
Thought I'd start my own orble thingy-ma-jiggy, mainly so I can have a picture, lol. I've also been interested in blogging but time will tell. I think I just want my own webpage but we'll see what prevails.

commercialism you say, I call it spam! I hate it with a passion. mobile broadband is wici-wici-wicked, cheap high speed broadband heaps better. Then add the technology to do what I do now cool...I think I'm starting to like the idea argghhh.. yee gads man!

tersch,

well welcome to the orble world!! now all you have to do is write! nice photo too - i think i remember that night!

free high speed internet should be like sex - a god given right! soon the day will come when we don't pay for such 'luxuries', and i am experiencing this now in korea. it is surprissing how often you can stumble across free internet points. and it's high speed!

Helen Coonan is the biggest stumbling block towards decent wired and wireless comms in Australia. What a joke. An ex-Avon lady presiding over one of the most important portfolio's of our nation. I mean, if she stopped the dodgy deals/pandering with Tel$tra, opened her eyes and listened to an independant, educated person she would realise that spending a few $$ 'in the right direction' e.g. FTTN or preferable FTTH (fibre to the home) to increase average speeds to business and home would have a HUGE economy of scale for her own government and the business sector who basically fund who they want to be in govenment. We are starting to get in the right direction with wireless broadband, only because there has been no regulation until recently and good ol capatlist supply and demand in the market place has spurred on growth. realtime TV on your mobile is great, but think of the hundreds of other applications for such speed. e.g. hospitals spend massive $$$ to be linked and communcating important collective information. ADSL is not reliable enough so they have to go to HDSL or Frame Relay. Ouch! A decent 10mbit Fibre or low contention, high reliability WiMax link would solve a lot of problems. $hit they could do those TV style operations where the doctor is in L.A. guiding some poor smo's in Bankstown public how to pull out a heart for 1/4 of the cost.
Thats my two cents.

damo,

as in warfare does the photographic technology develop, so to does communication technology with the gaming industry. it just seems the gamers are the first ones to use most of these technologies.

mytwocents,

well you certainly lived up to your name there, and thank you. it is scary to believe that helen coonan is in charge of our communication industry. if only she thought like you and i, imagine the communication possibilities in australia. you probably would have got this reply 2 days ago!
