"There is no progress in art, any more than there is progress in making love. There are simply different ways of doing it." Man Ray

Anthroblogogy - June 2007

to round of this week's 'what would you be' series, i have left it reasonably open, that being any kind of accessory.

me sporting a tag heuer
if i had to be an kind of accessory, i would have to be a tag heuer watch. is there anything that one of these bad boys don't go with? i mean you could wear it to the opera, to the office, to a death metal concert and all the while know that you are right on time. a bit chunky but completely styling throughout the luscious curves, and a big head to boot! as you can see, the tag completely suits my new look!

what kind of food would you be?

June 21st 2007 06:35
if you could be any kind of food, from any kind of culture, what would it be?

spanish doughnuts churros
i would have to be a spanish doughnut, also called churros. after recently going to the cinema in south korea and discovering these little bad boys as treats for munching along with the usual pop corn and coke, i found a new best friend. all doughy and rolled in cinnamon sugar, these slightly chewy little bundles of joy are best eaten after being dipped in chocolate. the perfect compliment for a really bitter espresso, they are one of the drunks best friends at about 11 o'clock at night. just try it once and you will love it for life!

what kind of shoes would you be?

June 20th 2007 06:28
if you could be a pair of shoes what would you be?

adidas shell tops
if i had to be a pair of shoes, i would be have to be a pair of adidas shell tops. a classic shoe that seems to go with most styles of pants (except those blue jeans that jerry signfield used to wear). brought into the spotlight be run dmc they were destined for greatness and still have to be the weapon of choice for most hip hoppers. comfortable to wear, comes in a trillion styles, and just oozes cool from every angle. the adidas shell top.

if you could be an alcoholic drink what would you be?

long island ice tea
i think i would have to be a long island ice tea. just the right blend of so many styles of alcohols, served in style (sometimes in a really over sized tea cup!), often adds a slight amount of sophistication to the drinker, makes you feel all tropical when you think of it, tends to do your head in after one, and is the favourite drink of p.u.t.s.

most people have characteristics that could be likened to many objects - animal, mineral, or vegetable. generally we seem to pick things that reflect our personalities and sometimes don't realise how much they are actually saying about us. what kind of ring i wear, which style of backpack i don, which music t-shirt i am wearing - they all say something about the person and are a kind of a reflection of what is going on inside. for this week on anthroblogogy, i will be posing questions of what particular item you would be in various categories.

alternative communication

June 11th 2007 18:05
communicating in means other than words seems to be the theme of my thinking patterns this week, so i have been exploring alternative forms of communication. what use does a word have if the person you are communication it to has no idea of its meaning? by saying it slower or louder at them doesn't help the situation any (which annoys me to no end!), and the conversation just, well, stops. or you might end up getting an ashtray when you asked for a glass of cab sav!

the trumpet of the swan
the book the trumpet of the swan by e.b. white, is a fine example of this. it basically is about a swan that cannot communicate the same way that other swans do. he ends up going to school and learning how to read and write by writing on a slate around his neck. he returns home and tries to tell one of the lady swans that he loves her, but she cannot read so she just swims away. his father then steals him a trumpet and louis learns how to play it, which becomes his new form of communication. he then returns home, trumpets his way into his beloved female swans heart, has cygnets and lives happily ever after

words mean so little
coming to end of the semester, it also brings with it the finalization of all of the deadlines, late night cram sessions, and frantic time rescheduling to try and fit in all of those group projects that we have embarked upon. it also brings a certain amount of joy and fulfillment knowing that the projects we have created are both successful and completed.

having just completed one of my korean cinema projects, of which was to create a 20 minute short film, the best part of the semester happened last night. as much fun as it was to create these films with groups of truly creative people, it is more fun to spend four hours watching the fruits of our collective labour. it was a truly great night and a really great chance to see who the next big names in the korean cinema world are going to be
