what ever happened to gofer and doc?

November 26th 2006 14:07
well i'm not so sure what happened to the two characters from 'the love boat', but i do know where the boat is, and i am typing this entry from the business center of it! to explain on this a little further, i am working at the 15th asian games in daho, qatar at the moment and the living quarters for the staff is on three cruise ships that are moored at the dock. you could imagine my surprise and delight when i discovered that it is indeed the 'new flamenco', the very ship that they shot 'the love boat' on! i'm also hoping that at the end of every day we get to see the captain marry two people who you thought might never get it together.... with a sunset in the background..... whilst the doc sings to them.... etc. etc. but here's the view from the top deck of doha city:

my initial destination was the dubai airport, which initially struck me as this eastern culture that has been engulfed by the rabid tidal wave of globalisation. there is this unique blend of arabs surrounding themselves in what could be a shopping mall somewhere in america, only with a signifiantly larger amount of more costly items for sale. the most interesting difference that i noted was the lack of background music, which gives this space a feel of vastness and grandure, along with a slightly odd feel. perhaps just different to what i am used to.

on a more personal level, coming off a 16 hour flight, i was busting to go to the toilet. hustling to the nearest men's room, i bust into the cubical and find this....

eastern crapper
is the hose for me or the floor?

however i must say after mastering the knack of using this shiny steel platform, it works a whole lot better than those seat shaped 'thrones' we westerners have. i hereby endorse the 'squat steel platform' for all!

doha strikes me as a place that time forgot, however was found recently along with a secret booty containing enough money to cure third world debt. there is an incredible amount of construction happening here, forcing the skyline to creep up into the heavens. flying over it one can see how it appears to be surrounded by peasant farms that don't really have a lot going for them. i heard a mention of gas line and income in the same sentence earlier, so will have to investigate this matter as time goes on (unfortunately the firewall of this beast won't allow me to google). i believe this will explain the current situation and they seem to be moving into a position of global economical importance - possibly following in dubai's footsteps?

however the culture, this place is full of it just like yoghurt! to leave you with an image here is one relevant to what is surrouonding its city:

foo foo to movember

November 26th 2006 06:40
after landing in dubai at six o'clock this morning, i had fresh memories of home in my head. mainly how frustrated i am with this apparent new found passion of growing one's mo (espescially if your a man) during the month of november. if you have been under a log or something of that stature lately, one can check it out at this place. it is for a reasonable cause, but i think the street cred was lost when i saw the dude on the morning show with one. it simply became the norm then. boo!

however when comparing this to the average arabian, i think some australians could take a leaf out of their books on this one. sick of having to look at half arse mo's for the last three to four weeks, i am quite impressed with the natural ability to grow the coolest mo of all by these people. and they make it look cool as.. i wish to bring many a photograph back with me to show some of these aussies how to really do it!

having said that, i still it is reasonable to 'don the chopper, or handle bars as it is more passionately known as.

hello and welcome!

November 20th 2006 07:06
as this is the first post in my new blog, i think it is appropriate to explain what the concept behind it is. i want to compile an on line journal that studies culture and cultural practices, and relies upon the network and creative communities for its distribution. this is reflective in its title 'anthroblogogy', a folksonomy of juxtaposing the word anthropology with word blog. it will be a look at our communities through my eyes, as i attempt to understand better the cultures and habbits that we seem to live by.

i feel that most of our cultural habbits can be understood better through basic philosophy and cultural studies. by examining theories as early from socrates through to a more modern philosopher like descartes, one can start to understand how we function as a community. it may also be split into eastern and western cultures, and split further down into four main areas: values, norms, institutions, and artifacts. this style of study might then be looked at through techniques such as semiology - one of my personal favourites within culture and communication.

how do we come up with cool and who is the one that determines it to be cool? what is considered cool? how does one value cool, either as the writer or reader of these texts?

this may be cool...

graf on cremourne street
cool?

or this could be cool...

graf on cremourne street2
cool02?

but then others might think this is cool..

bare
cool03?

so there is a slight insite into where this blog will be coming from. the other half of this blog is based upon blog theories, or a newer form of communication.

as i heavily believe in the idea of 'the author is dead', i would like to open this blog up to interpretation, contribution, and active consumption. therefore, i feel a general appreciation of the following should be observed when contributing to a blog:

the blog should have multiple entry and exit points,

it should be networked,

it should be entertaining along with some form of education attached to it,

it should consider all forms of text - i.e. audio, video, still image, written text,
and the content should have a creative commons license on it so as others have the chance to use your material as long as they change it for the better and credit you as the original source.

having said that, i look forward to providing an entertaining and sometimes comical blog on the human race. i hope you find it as entertaining as i will....
